professionalism

A colleague recently reminded me, quite bluntly if I must say, about the need for profesionalism in our line of work. Who am I to speak about patient doctor relationships and the etiquette that comes with it when I show not respect to my fellow hospital employees he tells me. I was taken aback at what he said, but it also made me think. In a way, he’s right. While I don my white coat and while I am in the hospital premises, with it comes the responsibility of being a professional and it should be treated as such. Personal relations opinions should take a back seat as it might cloud objectivity and sound judgement. It may have been a rude wake up call, but I’m glad someone brought it up to my attention.

There is a fine line between the personal and the professional, but it does exist for a reason.
